Divided opinion on T-Bill passage

Akin to the differences of opinion among the people of Telangana and Seemandhra on the issue of bifurcation of the State, the reactions of parties and people’s organisations on the passage of A.P. Reorganisation Bill in Lok Sabha on Tuesday were also divided vertically.

Opposing the bifurcation of the State and the method adopted by the ruling Congress in Lok Sabha strongly president of YSR Congress Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy said it was against the spirit of the constitution.

“Such lopsided legislations are unheard of even in countries like Pakistan”, he said terming it a black day and called for a bandh in Seemandhra protesting the attitude of Congress and BJP.

The party would move Supreme Court against the constitutional violation in the passage of the Bill, party MP M. Rajamohan Reddy said.

Terming the passage of Telangana Bill in Lok Sabha as “most unfortunate” TDP leaders P. Keshav, Y. Sujana Chowdary and D. Narendra said the incidents in Parliament for the last few days were unprecedented. They faulted bifurcation of the State by creating differences between the people of Telangana and Seemandhra.

However, TDP MLA from Telangana region M. Narasimhulu welcomed the development saying it was a historic day for the people of the region. It was possible with decades of struggle and sacrifices of people, he noted.

Senior leader of BJP Bandaru Dattatreya thanked his party leadership for support to the Bill to help fulfil the 60-year dream of Telangana people. The party would also protect the interests of Seemandhra people after coming to power, he said.

State secretary of CPI K. Narayana hailed the passage of the Bill and attributed it to the struggle of Telangana people and sacrifices of youth and students. He mentioned that the CPI had been fighting for the cause in Assembly/Parliament and outside.

“It is not a time for either triumph or sorrow but for resolute action to build a better future for all Telugu people,” Lok Satta Party national President Jayaprakash Narayan said on the passage of the Bill.
