Jitan Sahani, the 70-year-old father of Vikasheel Insan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani, was found murdered in his house in Jirat village under the Biraul police station of Darbhanga district in Bihar. The body of the former Minister’s father was mutilated, said police.
According to police, the initial investigation suggests that Sahani was murdered with a sharp weapon and several objects were found scattered in the house. Police have found three empty glasses from the backyard of the house.
Darbhanga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jagunath Reddy has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. When the incident happened, Mr. Mukesh Sahani was in Mumbai.
After landing in Patna along with family members, the leader said, “Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken cognisance of the incident. I have spoken to him over the phone. Even Union Minister Amit Shah and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav have spoken to me. Nitish ji has assured that whoever is the culprit will be arrested as soon as possible and action will be taken.”

Jitendra Singh Gangwar, ADG, (headquarters) said, Sahani used to stay alone and “has been murdered by unknown persons probably in the night”.
“Police headquarters has taken cognisance of the incident. The FSL (forensics) team is collecting evidence from the spot. An almirah containing papers and money was found lying outside the house. Special Task Force from Patna has been sent to Darbhanga. The SIT headed by Darbhanga SP Rural (Kamya Mishra) will investigate the case” he said.
Mr. Gangwar said two unidentified persons have been detained for questioning. “The body has been sent for postmortem. If anyone has any information, they can call 9431822992, 6287742988 or 14432,” he said.
The Chief Minister expressed his condolences and directed the Director General of Police Rajwinder Singh Bhatti to investigate the case and ensure strict action against the culprits.
Opposition RJD slams State govt. over law and order issue
Former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav hit out the NDA government in Bihar. “I am shocked and saddened to hear the sad news of the brutal murder of the father of VIP Party patron and elder brother Mukesh Sahni ji by criminals. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” he said. “Terror has established in the State and I have been saying continuously that in the double engine government of Bihar, the morale of the power-supported, power-protected and power-sponsored government criminals has increased so much that they can kill anyone whenever they want, wherever they want,“ the RJD leader said.
Mr. Yadav said “instead of accepting the truth, the NDA government keeps repeating the same dialogue that there is a rule of good governance while hundreds of people are dying in criminal incidents every day”.
“We even issue crime bulletins but the arrogant government does not care. If tired leaders and retired officers handle the law and order of the State, then this will be the fate,” he said.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, reacted to the incident on X saying, ”The news of the brutal murder of Shri Jitan Sahani ji, father of Mukesh Sahani ji, Vikasheel Insaan Party chief and former minister of Bihar and our colleague from INDIA block is extremely painful. I express my condolences to Mukesh ji and his entire family and strongly condemn this heinous crime. It is expected from the Bihar government that it should take immediate action and give severe punishment to the murderers and provide justice to the Sahani family.”
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also posted message on X calling it horrific incident which shows that law and order has completely collapsed in Bihar and no one is safe in this jungle raj. She also said that there should be prompt and strict action against the culprits.
State unit president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary called the incident unfortunate.
“It is very unfortunate that such an incident has happened. I want to make it clear that the government will take strict action against those responsible for the heinous crime. The murder of Mukesh Shahani’s father is really sad for everyone,” Mr. Choudhary said.
