The Union Home Ministry on Monday transferred the Reasi terror attack case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the killing of nine pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir.
The development came a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired meetings to review the security arrangements in the Union Territory in the wake of recent terror attacks and also for preparations in the run-up to the Amaranth Yatra this year.
In the Jammu division, Mr. Shah has directed security agencies to replicate the successes achieved in the Kashmir Valley with the “area domination plan” and “zero terror plan”. He said the fight against terrorism in J&K was in its decisive phase and stressed on seamless coordination among the agencies.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, J&K Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha; Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pandey, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, senior Army officers, including Chief of Army Staff (Designate) Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi, Directors General of the Central Armed Police Forces, J&K Chief Secretary, and the Director General of Police (DGP) were among those who attended the meetings.
On June 9, terrorists opened fire at the bus carrying pilgrims from Shiv Khori temple to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. The victims were from Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The J&K police have released the sketch of a suspect and also declared a reward of ₹20 lakh for information on those involved.
