Councillor’s daughter stabbed to death on Hubballi college campus

In a shocking incident, Neha Hiremath, daughter of Congress councillor of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Niranjan Hiremath, was stabbed to death on the campus of her college in Hubballi on Thursday. The accused who fled from the scene was arrested by the police subsequently.

Neha Hiremath was a first year MCA student at KLE Technological University and the youth who stabbed her multiple times on campus was her classmate.

The assailant intercepted her on the university campus and stabbed her multiple times leaving her profusely bleeding on the ground as several students watched in shock. He then fled the scene only to be apprehended later by Vidyanagar Police. Some of the students and staff of the university immediately rushed her to hospital, where she died of injuries.

Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar told The Hindu that the accused, identified as Fayaz, has been arrested. She said that according to him they were friends from their PU days and were in love but of late she had started avoiding him. He admitted to stabbing her unable to bear the insult.

Demonstration

Meanwhile, several students staged a demonstration in front of KLE Technological University under the aegis of ABVP seeking stringent punishment for the accused.

Late on Thursday night, members of Hindutva outfits staged an agitation in front of the Vidyanagar Police Station urging the police to hand over the accused to their custody leading to an argument for some time.
