Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 2 asked NDA MPs to follow parliamentary rules and conduct, and learn from senior members about the best practices, comments that came a day after the ruling alliance accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of making a "most irresponsible" speech.

Speaking with media persons, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the first meeting of the NDA parliamentary party was held on Tuesday. Leaders of all the NDA constituents felicitated the Prime Minister for his historic third consecutive term in power. During the meeting, Mr. Rijiju said the Prime Minister shared a key “mantra” with all the MPs.

He said the MPs, irrespective of the parties they belonged to, had come to the Parliament to serve the country and that they should always keep the nation first. At the meeting, Mr. Modi said the Opposition was upset as for the first time a non-Congress leader, that too a “chaiwala” had become the Prime Minister for the third time.

‘Concerned over personal attacks’

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan told reporters that NDA members were concerned over Mr. Gandhi’s “personal attacks” on the Prime Minister and Speaker Om Birla and his remarks which hurt the feelings of the followers of different religions. “In this context, the Prime Minister guided the newly-elected MPs on how to conduct themselves. He brings vast experience and inspires us,” said Mr. Paswan.

The Prime Minister, at the NDA meeting, asked the MPs to study any issue well before issuing statements on it before the media. He also advised them to keep working diligently for their respective constituencies.
