BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi moved in the Rajya Sabha Motion of Thanks on the President’s address. The Opposition members raised slogans and stormed the well of the House demanding a discussion on the NEET issue. While JD(S) MP and former PM Deve Gowda backed the government over the NEET issue, Chairman Jadgeep Dhankar called out MPs Sagarika Ghose, Derek O’Brien, and Saket Gokhale over the ruckus in the house.
Opposition MPs walked out of the Rajya Sabha after Congress MP Phulo Devi Netam fainted during a protest in the well of the House. The Opposition MPs were demanding an adjournment of the House which was denied by the chair.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till July 1, 11 a.m., minutes after it was reconvened. The Opposition Members were on their feet seeking the acceptance of an adjournment motion to suspend all business and discuss matters related to the NEET. Speaker Om Birla said he could not allow it as the House was about to discuss the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on Thursday. With the Opposition not relenting, the uproar continued and the Speaker subsequently adjourned the House till Monday.

In her address on Thursday, President Droupadi Murmu described the imposition of Emergency in 1975 as the “biggest and darkest chapter” of a direct attack on the Constitution and said the country emerged victorious over unconstitutional forces. She also said the government is fully committed to investigating the recent incidents of paper leaks and ensure that the guilty are punished.
