Speaker Meira Kumar on Sunday referred the pepper spray incident in the Lok Sabha to the Committee of Privileges, which has powers to recommend punitive measures.
The use of pepper spray by expelled Congress MP L. Rajagopal even as the Telangana Bill was being introduced on February 13, plunged the House into pandemonium and led to the hospitalisation of three MPs .
The matter has been referred to the committee “under Rule 227 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha. Where a question of privilege is referred to the Committee by the Speaker,” said a release from the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
“Its function is to examine every question involving breach of privilege or contempt of the House or of the members of any Committee thereof referred to it by the House or by the Speaker,” the release said.
