Build 2024: Microsoft Expands Copilot for Microsoft 365 With Team Copilot

Copilot for Microsoft 365, the paid version of Microsoft’s AI Assistant for customers with a Microsoft 365 or Office 365 commercial subscription is about to become more proactive. Team Copilot, a new experience coming in preview later this year will transform the AI assistant into a more intelligent agent that can facilitate meetings, help with project management, and more.

“Team Copilot expands Copilot beyond a personal assistant to act on behalf of a team, a department, or an entire company. And of course, you’re always in control – assigning tasks or responsibilities to Copilot so the whole team can be more productive, collaborative, and creative, together,” explained Jared Spataro, CVP, AI at Work, Microsoft.

In practice, the team AI assistant will be available across various Microsoft 365 apps including Teams, Planner, and Microsoft Loop. In Teams, the AI assistant will be able to take notes during meetings, surface important information from chats, and more. The assistant will also track action items, create and assign tasks to team members when needed, as well as ask collaborators for their input just like a real project manager would do.

Team Copilot is just one of the various Copilot updates Microsoft announced at its Build 2024 conference this morning. The company also detailed Copilot extensions, which will unify the different ways to customize Copilot with custom data.
