In response to the growing global demand for lifelong learning, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), in collaboration with Shanghai Open University (SOU), is organizing a workshop titled, ‘Evaluating and Enhancing Lifelong Learning in Education Systems’ as part of its ‘Strengthening Education Systems from a Lifelong Learning Perspective’ capacity-building series.

The workshop will take place from 21 to 25 October 2024 in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, and will convene representatives of five Member States previously supported by UIL and SOU in lifelong learning policy and strategy development. The aim of the workshop is to assist these country teams in evaluating progress and enhancing their policy and strategy frameworks.

The workshop will provide national teams with opportunities to exchange experiences, reflect on the progress and implementation of lifelong learning policies since previous workshop participation, identify specific barriers to policy delivery, and deepen their understanding of lifelong learning policies and flexible learning pathways.

The overall expected outcome across Member States is the further strengthening of national education systems from a lifelong learning perspective. The workshop will draw upon insights from UIL’s flagship publication, Making Lifelong Learning a Reality: A Handbook.

Working languages:

The working language of the workshop is English, with the possibility of interpretation for some live sessions.
