Exhibition launched at the 2024 High-Level Political Forum
On 11 July 2024, UNESCO and the United Nations Group of Friends for Education and Lifelong Learning launched an exhibition on the margins of the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York.
Entitled Lifelong Learning for All – Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies, the exhibition highlights the pivotal role of lifelong learning in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
It was opened in the presence of H.E. Mr. Nicolás Cataldo, Minister of Education of Chile and Co-Chair of the SDG 4 High-Level Steering Committee.
Lifelong learning is crucial for alleviating poverty and hunger, combating the climate crisis, fostering peaceful societies, and transforming our future. Yet despite efforts to meet SDG 4, a global learning crisis persists, with 250 million children out of school, 765 million adults lacking basic literacy, and fewer than 5 per cent of adults accessing learning opportunities.
Education doesn’t stop at the school gate. It continues throughout life. We must make the right to education a reality for everyone.
The HLPF exhibition underscores lifelong learning as a human right and a public good. Through powerful testimonials from political leaders and panels presenting personal stories from learners around the world, the exhibition reveals how lifelong learning has empowered societies and individuals to overcome adversity, take climate action, drive sustainable development, and contribute to peaceful societies.
