Carlota Bruna: Inspiring a generation to protect wildlife and live sustainably

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Barcelona, Spain, Carlota Bruna was studying Human Nutrition and Dietetics when she first started championing sustainability on social media. Today, she has 233,000 followers on Instagram, becoming a prominent voice for young people in the fight against climate change. Through her platform, she educates about issues such as species extinction or ocean pollution, promotes actionable steps to address these challenges, and empowers her followers to adopt lifestyles that support a healthier planet. 

Carlota’s approach is rooted in transparency and accessibility. She invites her audience to understand different climate challenges through other subjects such as fashion, food, and lifestyle, always through the lens of sustainability. Her advocacy extending beyond social media, she has published two books, ‘Camino a un mundo vegano’ (Path to a Vegan World) and ‘Somos la última generación que puede salvar el planeta’ (We Are the Last Generation That Can Save the Planet), and has featured in ‘Al Mar,’ a educational program promoting coastal ecosystems and water sports. As an ambassador for the European Climate Pact and frequent collaborator with National Geographic, Carlota’s impact is international. She travels extensively, documenting endangered wildlife in various countries, furthering her mission to protect our planet’s biodiversity and raise awareness about endangered ecosystems around the world. Last year, her relentless efforts earned her the Forbes award for the best sustainability creator in Spain. Whether advocating for plant-based diets, signaling at the critical state of our oceans, or showcasing the benefits of slow fashion, Carlota consistently delivers a clear message: individual actions are crucial in the fight against climate change. 

Now joining UNESCO Green Citizens as an influencer, Carlota will harness her powerful online presence to raise awareness about local initiatives combating climate change. Her role will involve shining a light on these citizen-led projects that complement UNESCO’s commitment to Biodiversity, Oceans, Education for Sustainable Development, Hydrology and Local and Indigenous Knowledge. Her work with UNESCO Green Citizens will also emphasize the importance of collective action. By showcasing inspiring stories of local heroes and their innovative solutions, Carlota aims to encourage her vast audience to take inspiration from or participate in these projects, either on site or remotely.  

By promoting sustainable practices and highlighting the importance of biodiversity, Carlota shines a torch for Environmental Education through her work, one of UNESCO’s key pillars.
