Manuscript of al- Zahrāwīsur

‘Al-Tasrif liman ‘aǧiza year al-Ta’līf’ is the most famous work of al-Zahrāwī in the medical and surgical field. H̱alaf ibn ‘Abbās Abū al-Qāsim, known in the Western countries under the name of Abulcasis (0936? -1013?) was a prominent Arab-Andalusian physician of the Umayyad era in Andalusia (11th century). This encyclopedia, which earned him most of his notoriety, is composed of 3 parts: the first deals with the theories and medical general, the second relates to medical practice and the third to surgery. Thirty books adorn this masterpiece. Al-Zahrāwī’s 30th book manuscript is dedicated to surgery and happens to be the first to illustrate patterns and surgical instruments, often invented by himself in the history of surgery. Furthermore, it has been translated into several languages.
