UNESCO-Japan Partnership

Our shared priorities

Building on Japan’s domestic knowledge and know-how, shared priorities at the heart of UNESCO and Japan’s longstanding partnership include the protection of all forms of heritage, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Disaster Risk Reduction, the UN Ocean Decade, Emerging technologies such as AI and neurotechnology, and the promotion of MONDIACULT 2022 Declaration.

Japan’s unwavering support, characterized by its highly predictable contributions and strategic dialogue, has been instrumental in shaping visions for peace and a sustainable future.

Between 23 and 26 April 2024, UNESCO and the Government of Japan will hold an annual review meeting. The Government of Japan has been supporting UNESCO’s activities through various funding instruments and the experts’ technical contributions.
