Los docentes bien formados, apoyados y valorados son esenciales para garantizar una educación de calidad para todos y lograr la consecución de los objetivos educativos de la Agenda 2030. Por ello, los docentes constituyen una prioridad absoluta para la UNESCO. Sin embargo, en todo el mundo hay un déficit de 44 millones de docentes y muchos de los que trabajan actualmente, especialmente en el África subsahariana y en el sur de Asia, carecen de cualificaciones y formación básicas para seguir el ritmo de los cambios en la educación. La UNESCO colabora con los diferentes países para aumentar la oferta de docentes cualificados y motivados, mejorando las políticas relativas a estos y apoyando una formación de calidad que responda a las necesidades de los alumnos. Se hace especial hincapié en África, la inclusión, la sensibilidad en las cuestiones relativas al género y las tecnologías digitales.

If we don’t act now, there won’t be enough teachers to ensure that new generations can thrive and contribute to building a more equal and prosperous world. Investing in teachers is more than just a priority. It is an imperative. And it is urgent.
