Spooky season is officially upon us, and with it comes an influx of chilling movies and TV shows that are new on Netflix. The month starts off strong with the fifth volume of Unsolved Mysteries on October 2, followed on October 18 by Woman of the Hour, Anna Kendrick’s based-on-a-true-story directorial debut about an aspiring actress who encounters a prolific serial killer when they are both contestants on The Dating Game. On October 23, expect a new docuseries on one of true crime’s most infamous serial killers with This Is the Zodiac Speaking. Just before Halloween, there’s another eerie doc coming titled The Manhattan Alien Abduction.
Traumatized enough? Turn to some lighthearted comedy—new specials from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom and former Daily Show talking head Hasan Minhaj land on October 15 and October 22, respectively. For those who scour the Netflix documentary section each month, on October 25 there will be a new installment of Simone Biles Rising that documents her Paris Olympics run. And on October 30, Emmy-winning filmmaker R.J. Cutler, who has made movies about John Belushi and Billie Eilish, takes on the life of Martha Stewart. In the film, Martha, he posits that she is “the original influencer and America’s first self-made female billionaire,” according to Netflix.
Here’s more on what’s coming to Netflix in October:
Love Is Blind, Season 7
It’s taken seven seasons of socially distanced dating, but the hit reality franchise has finally reached the final frontier: our nation’s capital. More than two dozen singles in the Washington, DC, area have descended upon the pods for a chance at everlasting romance. This year’s crop of suitors includes multiple military veterans, scientists, a clean-energy-policy consultant, and even a Washington Post journalist. Plus, plenty of pre-election politics questions are sure to go smoothly! The season will debut episodes weekly, beginning with the first six on October 2.
Heartstopper, Season 3
The fan-favorite love story between British classmates Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) is returning for a third year at their all-boys school. As they navigate their newly forged romance, Charlie and Nick encounter sizable relationship challenges, as well as some major guest stars. Hayley Atwell joins the cast as Nick’s aunt, Diane, and Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey plays Jack Maddox, Charlie’s Instagram-famous celebrity crush. All eight episodes of the next season premiere on October 3.
The Menendez Brothers
Fresh off a controversial fictionalized depiction of brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, who are serving life in prison for murdering their parents, the real-life siblings break their silence. A new documentary from director Alejandro Hartmann features audio interviews from both Menendez brothers, speaking for the first time in nearly 30 years about their headline-making case. It also acts as a platform for the pair to share their side of the story after criticizing Ryan Murphy’s recent fictionalized series about them, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The film drops October 7.
Ali Wong: Single Lady
In past Netflix specials, the Emmy-winning comedian has mined her marriage, motherhood, and her subsequent divorce for material. Now that she’s back in the dating pool—and currently swimming with Bill Hader—Wong is taking the stage once more to share the peaks and valleys of newfound singledom. Her fourth stand-up special airs on October 8.

What’s leaving Netflix in October 2024:
As the fall season continues, we bid farewell to all three seasons of Key & Peele, 2022’s Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and those Crazy Rich Asians. Several horror film titles will also be leaving the platform just before Halloween, including It Follows, no less than six movies inspired by a demonic doll—Seed of Chucky, anyone?—as well as Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat (it very much qualifies).
