This season, the Big Four fashion month cities witnessed a number of emerging street style trends, ranging from bold statement coats paired with white tees, to crew-neck jumpers amped-up with maximalist skirts. Among these trends, one styling move stood out as both simple and effective: the clever use of a “pop of red”. This styling technique involves adding a single item, whether it’s a top, jumper, pair of shoes or handbag, in a vibrant shade of ruby, crimson or scarlet to a pared-back ensemble. Kendall Jenner, clearly a fan of this approach, was seen adopting it for the second time in recent weeks.

During a date night at Luis Miguel’s concert in New York with her boyfriend Bad Bunny, Kendall chose a simple off-duty outfit that was enhanced by a flash of scarlet. She wore a black tank top paired with tailored high-waisted trousers cinched with a leather belt, complemented by pointed-toe heels, oval-framed sunglasses and a Gucci horsebit clutch, all in black. What truly stood out, however, was the plain crimson By Malene Birger knitted jumper casually draped over her shoulders, adding a dash of personality into an otherwise classic look.

The “pop of red” styling trick is simple and effective.

While attending Sabato de Sarno’s debut Gucci show during Milan Fashion Week (a few days before the mega brand launched its first campaign with Jenner alongside Bad Bunny), the model styled a mini classic trench coat with a pair of patent burgundy slingbacks and a matching Gucci Jacki bag.

When in doubt, follow Kendall’s lead and incorporate a “pop of red” into your autumn looks for an instant zest to any outfit. Plus, this trend isn’t going anywhere in 2024, as this styling hack was seen on the spring 2024 runways at Courrèges, We11done, Mowalola and Stella McCartney, as well as The Row’s pre-fall 2024 show.
