Caribbean dream: Prada opens a store in St Barts with a neat tropical edge
Saint Barthélemy – St Barts for short – is a luxury holiday destination that attracts those travelers who can appreciate not just pristine beaches and azure waters, but also high fashion, haute cuisine and contemporary art.
The island is home to Art Saint Barth, the Eden Rock Hotel’s restaurant On The Rocks, and numerous designer boutiques – and now, Prada. The Italian luxury house's presence in Central America is already significant, but its new store provides another crucial location in the Carribean for the brand.
The single-level store offers women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear, alongside special products geared towards the exotic location’s summer necessities. With consideration for the exotic locale’s iconic 1950s South American architecture, Prada planted an original interior design on the island’s main promenade.
A checkered black-and-white marble floor contrasts with more colourful materials and colours, such as a brown wooden brise soleil solar shading, a yellow-and-white striped painted ceiling and blue leaf fabric print walls inspired by Prada collections.
Together, they form a relaxed holiday-home setting, complemented with rare design pieces by Giò Ponti and Franco Albini.
