On the nose: Anya Hindmarch and Lyn Harris partner on a playful candle collection
Who better than to partner with fashion accessories doyenne Anya Hindmarch on her maiden voyage into scent creation than master olfactory collaborator Lyn Harris. When we heard the duo were pairing up, we knew the results would be anything but ordinary.
The new ‘Anya Smells’ range comprises a trio of hand-poured candles with intriguing titles to reflect the humorous nuances of everyday life. ‘Sun Lotion’ fondly draws inspiration from family holidays and includes hints of Tunisian orange flowers and Texan cedar wood. ‘Baby Powder’ evokes sentimentality, delicately spiced with oriental flavours. ‘Coffee’ offers a woody depth through extracts of Patchouli, Venezuelan tonka bean and amber to stir up the morning routine.
‘My obsession has always been with the combination of playfulness, irreverence and the critical ingredient of craftsmanship,’ says Hindmarch. This line certainly oozes that signature wit. The candles come encased in playful boxes, featuring facial expressions and quips like ‘who, me’ and ‘kiss it’, which can be mixed and matched.
The range is imbued with Hindmarch’s famed whimsical spin – recall her ‘Crisp Packet’ handbag, and smiley-faced tennis shoes – of which laughter, personalisation and the bond between craftsman and customer are recurring motifs.
