The city's fine dining fraternity quietly mourned when, this past September, Chui Lee Luk closed the doors of Claude's, the French restaurant she'd overseen for eight years. However, they didn't have to wait long for her next move. Luk has since dipped into her parents' Malaysian heritage and Chinese influences, opening Chow Bar & Eating House in the city's vibrant Surry Hills neighbourhood. The menu of contemporary Asian dishes includes lemon chicken (brined and fried chicken served with lemon curd and lemon sago pearls) and red glass beef from a list of house-made charcuterie. Pull up a seat at the communal table tiled with mah jong pieces and discover a different side to Chinese food.
