A personal advisor is a hefty expense for an independent traveller. Good thing, then, that guests at Berlin’s Plus One get not only a well-appointed apartment to stay in but also an insider experience in the city with a like-minded resident at no extra cost.

Recently featured in our Graduate Directory (W*154), Plus One is the brainchild of Clare Freeman, former PR manager for the Design Hotels group. Located in the up-and-coming Kreuzkölln district, it is a single flat in a 1970s residential building, remodeled by Berlin-based architects Paola Bagna of Spamroom and JP Coss of CossA. The apartment can sleep up to three guests.

The accommodation is charged at a fixed rate and includes a choice of 28 insider advisors from Freeman’s network of locals. Once you've booked your stay online, you are taken to a page where you can read their profiles and decide whether you’d like to meet one for a 30-minute tips-and-advice session - or reserve him or her as your 'plus one' for three to five hours.

Freeman hopes to expand her innovative concept to incorporate further apartments in Berlin, as well as other European cities, over the next five years.
