The Marriott’s Autograph Collection could not have picked a more colourful neighbourhood – specifically, Seoul’s artsy Hongdae district – in which to debut its newest property the RYSE Hotel.

Bookended by Hongik Art University, boutique design studios, night spots and indie music clubs, the interiors of the 274-room property are a treat – London-based Michaelis Boyd, and Daniel Song and Kate Cho of local studio Integ happily mixing and matching pink resin floors with raw concrete surfaces, velvet curtains with hand-woven Kenyan rugs, and geometric shaped sofas with lacquered cabinets.

The Australian chef David Thompson shows up with another iteration of his wildly successful restaurant chain Long Chim, sending out tasty renditions of Bangkok street food such as prawn curry spiked with turmeric, and smoky beef noodles with basil and oyster sauce.

Meanwhile, the vinyl collection at Side Note Club, the hotel’s 15th-floor rooftop bar is a handy semaphore for Hongdae’s buzzy music scene with a captivating view of river and skyscrapers, to boot.
