UCI Track Cycling World Championships 2023: preview

The first-ever UCI Cycling World Championships is delivering a veritable festival of cycling, involving 13 world championships across seven disciplines. And that includes the annual UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

Glasgow's Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome plays host to the track events. And it has a pretty good – ahem – track record: it has previously staged four rounds of the UCI Track Nations Cup (formerly known as the Track Cycling World Cup), and the 2018 European Track Cycling Championships. It opened in 2012 in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, for which it also hosted cycling events.

There are 11 track events to watch, including sprint, time trial, and keirin.

There's plenty else to enjoy besides, of course. The UCI Cycling World Championships marks the first time cyclings disparate world championships have been brought together under one umbrella event. Think of it as the Olympics of cycling. 

It will take place every four years – just like the Olympics – and will always be scheduled for 12 months before the quadrennial Olympic Games. This year's should indicate who's on form ahead of Paris 2024.

It will see 8,000 elite and amateur cyclists competing for over 200 medals in all kinds of two-wheeled disciplines including road racing, BMX, time trails, relays, mountain bike cross-country, and more.
