Launched at CES 2008 and available in the UK from April, these are the new AT-NC3 QuietPoint headphones from Audio-Technica.
And they claim to better rival designs in two significant ways, cancelling 85% of all outside noise, and also excluding extraneous sound across a wide frequency band. The company says that similar products usually only tackle the lower frequencies.
The earphones use a combination of snug-fitting earpieces and active cancellation, using microphones built into each bud, and can also be used in passive mode when the noise-proofing isn't needed, or to save the batteries.
New Audio-Technica AT-NC3 headphones come in black or white
They also claim 'a clear, high-resolution sound, with an exceptional bass response; clear and open midrange detail; clean high-frequency extension and outstanding stereo imaging', and are supplied complete with a travel case, an adjustable cable and extension, a clip to attach the battery/processing unit to your clothing and an airline adaptor.
Distributed in the UK by Henley Designs, they'll cost £70 when they launch in April.
