This is the new look whathifi.com. A long time in the making, it's a complete overhaul on the inside and outside, with a new-look responsive design, a brand-new user reviews section, thousands more products, direct links to latest prices, a new and improved search, improved social sharing, more detailed tech specs and much more besides. You can log in using your existing whathifi.com username and password.
This is the Beta launch of the new site, so we're aware there are still bugs, and we will be making tweaks all the time, so we welcome your feedback (use the feedback tab on the right-hand side of any page to submit your gripes) on how we can make the new What Hi-Fi? even better. This is just the first phase of the site's redevelopment, there's plenty more in the pipeline. We're well aware that an increasing number of users frequently use the site on mobile devices, so it's been optimised for use on smartphones and tablets, as well as desktop.
Allow us to explain some of the key changes in a little more detail. And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to post them on our dedicated Forum thread about the new site.
New and improved product pages
The new What Hi-Fi? website has thousands more products. Product pages now deliver our expert reviews, your user reviews, a more thorough list of specs and the latest live prices from a range of retailers. The 'Jump To' panel will allow you to better navigate reviews, while social sharing buttons mean you can share breaking news and the latest reviews at the touch of a button.
The related news stories at the bottom of the page will soon be joined by a host of other related content to make our review pages even more useful, while you can also use the Tags at the bottom of each page to find more news, reviews, Best Buys and more.
One thing to note: if you do submit a user review, they all have to go through external moderation and there'll be a 24-48 hour delay between you posting the review and it appearing on the site. You'll receive an email to confirm that your review has been submitted for moderation.
And in due course we'll introduce special badges so you can become an Approved User Reviewer or Top Contributor if we think your reviews are up to scratch.
Responsive design
This is the first version of whathifi.com that will look great on any screen size. Responsive web design means all the site's pages are designed to look good and be easy to navigate no matter whether you're on a computer, smartphone or tablet, and no matter the screen size.
Text should be clearer and easier to read, while images and videos can be more easily embedded (bear with us on legacy content). It's the first time we've had a site that will look great on mobile, with easy access to the search bar and a new drop-down menu for navigating to product reviews, news, forums and more.
Improved search
Search on the old What Hi-Fi? site could be a frustrating affair, to put it mildly. We know how many of you use the search facility so we've worked hard to back search on the new site much, much better. If you're searching for a product, simply start typing and wait for the auto-suggestion to drop down. Click the product name to be taken straight to the product page.
You can also search by brands, product types, technical specs or anything else you fancy. With a whole new taxonomy and thousands of new products, we don't expect it to be perfect for every search - we are already experimenting with the search algorithims to find the very best results - and we welcome your feedback to help us make it even better.
Please keep in mind that this is the Beta version of the site and we will be constantly upgrading and improving it in the coming weeks.
