Վիքիտվյալներն ազատ և բաց գիտելիքի շտեմարան է, որ կարող են կարդալ և խմբագրել թե՜ մարդիկ և թե՜ մեքենաները։

Վիքիտվյալները գործում են որպես միասնական շտեմարան իր քույր՝ Վիքիպեդիա, Վիքիճամփորդ, Վիքիբառարան, Վիքիդարան և այլն, նախագծերի "կառուցվածքային տվյալների" համար։

Բացի Վիքիմեդիա նախագծերից, Վիքիտվյալները նաև աջակցում է շատ ուրիշ կայքերի և ծառայությունների։ Վիքիտվյալների բովանդակությունը հասանելի է ազատ արտոնագրի ներքո, արտահանվում է ստանդարտ ձևաչափով և կարող է փոխադարձ հղվել այլ հղվող տվյալների կայքի բաց տվյալների բազմության։
