What you need to know

  • An update to iCloud for Windows adds a password generator to the app.
  • In August 2021, iCloud gained support for accessing passwords but could not generate them until this recent update.
  • The iCloud app on Windows now also supports Apple ProRes videos and Apple ProRaw photos.

Apple just rolled out an update to the iCloud app for Windows. The update adds a password generator to the app, making it a more viable option for people who use iCloud keychain. The iCloud app on Windows also gained support for Apple ProRes videos and Apple ProRaw photos in its recent update.

Here's the complete changelog from the Microsoft Store listing:

  • Allow participants of an iCloud Drive shared file or folder to add or remove people.
  • Support for Apple ProRes videos and Apple ProRaw photos.
  • Support for generating strong passwords via the iCloud Passwords app.

Back in August, the Windows version of iCloud gained the ability to sync passwords. Now that the app also supports password generation, it can compete with the best password managers on Windows 10.

The update also lets participants of an iCloud Drive shared file or folder add or remove people. This should make it easier to manage who can access shared content within iCloud.
