What you need to know

  • Developer 343 Industries has announced on Twitter that Halo 3: ODST Firefight is coming to the Master Chief Collection.
  • Firefight is a wave-defense mode where you battle hordes of Covenant foes.
  • The mode is coming to the Master Chief Collection later this summer.

Halo developer 343 Industries has announced on Twitter that Halo 3: ODST's Firefight mode, which was notably absent when Halo 3: ODST came out on the Master Chief Collection (MCC) originally, will finally be making its way onto the MCC now. We don't have any concrete information on when specifically yet, although the reveal does confirm that it will be added later this summer.

For those unaware, Firefight is a wave-defense mode where you and up to three other players can utilize a wide variety of weapons and vehicles to battle hordes of Covenant foes. As you play, waves get progressively harder and special gameplay modifiers called skulls are turned on. These skulls change a variety of things, ranging from increasing an enemy's likelihood to throw grenades to turning off your heads-up display and forcing you to fight without ammo indicators or a crosshair.

Overall, I'm incredibly excited to hear that Halo 3: ODST's Firefight mode is coming to the MCC, as I prefer it over Halo: Reach's Firefight. The reveal video is really cool too, as it has the same style as the one that plays during the start of the Halo 3: ODST campaign.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available on both Xbox One and PC (both Steam and the Windows 10 Store) for $40.
