The intensifying conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is putting women at increased risk of rape and sexual violence. ActionAid’s teams recorded twice the number of forced marriages in January and February than they did last year, and in the last two weeks of February alone, humanitarian organisations recorded 895 cases of rape—more than 60 per day. Women and girls in the DRC need urgent protection. Survivors of rape and sexual violence need medical, legal, and mental health support. Global leaders must act now to ensure local responders have the resources they need to protect women and girls. Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dnEd_8wS

💡Did you know that unjust tax systems are perpetuating gender inequality? 📣 During the Global Days of Action on Tax Justice for Women’s Rights (March 7-21), we must demand reform! From disproportionate burdens on women through regressive taxes like VAT to corporate loopholes robbing vital public funds, the system MUST be reformed! There is a need for #ProgressiveTaxation that invests in gender-responsive public services. 🌟 ActionAid Ghana’s Eugenia Ayagiba makes a compelling case for gender equality in tax systems and public services to achieve tax justice for women’s rights. #ProgressiveTax4Care #MakeTaxesWorkForWomen #Beijing30 #CSW69 #TaxJustice 👉 Read the full article and join the movement to #MakeTaxesWorkForWomen! https://lnkd.in/dJjYNCgE

As international development budgets are slashed, the aid sector must use this moment to push for reform. We can challenge policies that make the need for ‘aid’ and economic dependency inevitable. Global North-imposed austerity measures have, for instance, forced majority world countries to gut essential public services, often in order to facilitate the entry of overseas capital investment. We're calling for #TaxJustice for #WomensRights in 2025! Learn more about the campaign and submit an activity for the programme ➡️ https://bit.ly/GDOAevents Our first demand is for progressive taxation for a gender-transformative social organisation of care. ⚖️ Governments must act to counter the impacts of regressive tax measures like VAT, which disproportionately affect women and informal caregivers, perpetuating poverty. We need #ProgressiveTax4Care!

“Women don’t have enough purchasing power; and for those that refuse sex, their business in the fish trade is restricted,” explains Faides TembaTemba, the country director for Action Aid Zambia, where one of ActionAid's projects protecting such women has been shut down due to USAID cuts. In remote fishing villages, men hold the resources and the power. And women are often forced into exploitative relationships. Full story 👉 https://lnkd.in/dynhVg6S

💔 The ActionAid family is devastated to hear of the passing of our dear sister, Everjoice Win. EJ, as she was affectionately known, was a brave and daring feminist at the federation, who would speak truth to power, to whoever held that power. She believed in sisterhood and showed how to build that sisterhood with compassion, intelligence and humour. You can read our full tribute to EJ's contributions to ActionAid and the broader feminist movement here: https://lnkd.in/dWrk-YFA

The abrupt halt of USAID funding by Trump's government has forced ActionAid to shut down our programme protecting women in Zambia's remote fishing camps, leaving women at risk of being forced into exploitation and abuse by fishermen. Read more by Euronews 👇 https://lnkd.in/dXeESFEt

🚨 USAID cuts are putting women in danger. Today, on International Women's Day, we must act 🚨 Because of reckless USAID funding cuts, vital support for women in Zambia has been shut down overnight — leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. With Zambia’s worst drought in decades forcing women into the fishing business to survive, many are being forced into sex by the fishermen who control access to the fish. ActionAid has been providing safe houses, medical care, and legal support—but we have been forced to stop this work. Governments, including the US, UK, France, and Switzerland, have slashed their aid budgets—abandoning the world’s most vulnerable women and threatening to undo decades of progress on gender equality. We demand action. Women’s safety is not optional. On this #InternationalWomensDay, stand with us and speak out. #IWD2025
