Retaining your employees through an attractive Employee Value Propositions (EVP) Post pandemic, there was an increase from organizations to understand what makes employees stay within organizations. This was due to a major increase in staff turnover around the Globe. One of the areas of our specialisation is to help organizations to pro-actively develop strategies to engage and retain their most valuable employees by developing an attractive EVP. The main outcome of an effective EVP is engaged employees. Highly engaged employees have an 87% less chance to resign (ECB) and they are more productive than non-engaged employees. Developing and implementing an EVP, is an integrated and holistic process. Very often, organizations and specific Line Managers would like to have a single and simple solution, mostly they think that a good reward system will solve all the problems. Surely it is one of the elements of attracting and retaining employees but is not the only one and often not even the most important one. Important elements of the EVP that is often not focused on, or looked at in integrated way, includes: · A challenging job that ensures flexibility, autonomy, innovation, utilizing of a variety of skills, and risk taking. · Personal and professional development and growth. It is much more than a training program or a promotion, but it includes career development opportunities. · A conducive culture. If you ask people who have made a few job changes in their work life, they agree, in some organizations it was much nicer than in others. It has to do with the culture fit between the individual and the organization. (I once was head-hunted from an organization where I fitted like a hand in a glove. The new organization had a culture I just could not fit in, I lasted 12 months!) · A holistic well-being approach that includes fair compensation, benefits, and recognition · Effective leadership. I want to make a statement, that without effective leadership, it is impossible to build and attractive EVP. o Leaders, through their behaviours, mostly creates the organizations culture. (Schein) o They are the ones who can ensure challenging jobs, empowering employees, allow them to try new things. o They create developing and growth opportunities through job rotation, job enrichment and enlargement, challenging projects, and assignments. o Leaders ensure fairness in compensation and recognition. o They share a motivational and exciting vision of the future of which employees want to be part of Leaders are often not well prepared for their managerial/leadership role. They are coming from a functional or technical specialist area. They therefor need guidance and preparation from the organization. To learn more about the topic you can contact me.
