About us

Oceans, seas, lakes and rivers offer growing possibilities in the areas of trade, food, energy and recreation. To ensure global prosperity for next generations and keep the earth habitable with an ever-increasing population, it is essential to utilise and protect these possibilities as efficiently and responsibly as possible. Damen provides unprecedented maritime solutions for this, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. We offer versatile platforms that enable our customers to be successful and that raise the standard in terms of safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability. We want to become the most sustainable shipbuilders in the world. In the previous century, we revolutionized shipbuilding. Thanks to standardisation, we were able to supply our customers with better ships, faster. More than 90 years and 6,500 ships later, the importance of standardisation is only increasing in the light of zero-emissions and digitalisation. We do not build our ships alone, but together with an extensive network from the international maritime cluster. We firmly believe in the power of sharing. It means that we also use our craftsmanship to build platforms on production facilities that are not ours. In this way, through knowledge transfer, we not only contribute to better, safer and more eco-friendly ships, but also to sustainable local development and prosperity. We are a family owned business and stand for fellowship, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and stewardship. Our playing field is the world. Our horizon is the long term. We firmly believe in our team, but also in the strength of the individual. Each colleague is an entrepreneur, focused on ensuring truly satisfied clients and making our contribution to a better world. In every aspect of our business the next generation is our starting point.

United they stand. Costică Dumitrasc’s passion for shipbuilding began when he launched his mechanical career at the Galati yard in 1981. He shared stories about his work with his son, Teodor and, 32 years later, he too came to work at the yard as a pipefitter. It’s a situation that, says Costică, has done a lot for their relationship. “Because my son and I work together, this unites us even more.” #Damen #FamilyMatters #Shipbuilding

The next piece in the puzzle. The first ASD Tug 1810 has been launched at Damen Shipyards Changde in China. With its compact hull form, the ASD Tug 1810 is the ideal solution for today’s port paradox. As seagoing vessels get ever larger, tugs need to be increasingly compact with more power – with no compromise in safety and sustainability. With up to 30 tonnes of bollard pull, exceptional manoeuvrability and just 18 metres in length, the ASD Tug 1810 meets the challenge head on. #Damen #Shipbuilding #Tugs

Happy Birthday Sparky! The Port of Auckland recently celebrated the second anniversary of their vessel Sparky, the fully electric RSD-E Tug 2513. Since her arrival in New Zealand, Sparky has assisted over 1,400 ship moves – at half the operational cost of a comparable conventional vessel and with a saving of 465 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The emissions free tug provides up to 70 tonnes of bollard pull and can carry out up to four towing operations before recharging in just two hours. #Damen #Shipbuilding #Tugs

Taking charge of the future. Volta 1, Europe’s first fully electric tug, has successfully completed her sea trials in Vietnam. The RSD-E Tug 2513 is being built at Damen Song Cam Shipyard for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. During the next stages of the project, we will provide training to the tug’s crew. They will learn all they need to operate the new vessel, including charging procedures. Volta 1 is planned to be delivered at the end of this year. She is part of an order for six, environmentally focused tugs that will provide a significant sustainability boost to the Port’s operations. #Damen #Tugs #Etug #SeaTrials
