Happy Birthday Sparky! The Port of Auckland recently celebrated the second anniversary of their vessel Sparky, the fully electric RSD-E Tug 2513. Since her arrival in New Zealand, Sparky has assisted over 1,400 ship moves – at half the operational cost of a comparable conventional vessel and with a saving of 465 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The emissions free tug provides up to 70 tonnes of bollard pull and can carry out up to four towing operations before recharging in just two hours. #Damen #Shipbuilding #Tugs

Taking charge of the future. Volta 1, Europe’s first fully electric tug, has successfully completed her sea trials in Vietnam. The RSD-E Tug 2513 is being built at Damen Song Cam Shipyard for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. During the next stages of the project, we will provide training to the tug’s crew. They will learn all they need to operate the new vessel, including charging procedures. Volta 1 is planned to be delivered at the end of this year.
