🩸World Blood Donor Day 2024 Thank you to all the staff that put their hand up to donate to this cause. #worldblooddonorday 🔵 World Blood Donor Day: History The history of blood donation dates back to the early nineteenth century, when the first transfusions were done using poorly understood science and very early research. In 1940, Richard Lower, a scientist, successfully transfused blood between two dogs with no appreciable ill effects. This breakthrough made it possible to begin to develop modern transfusion techniques and made blood donation a routine procedure in the healthcare sector. In 2005, the World Health Assembly unanimously declared 14 June as World Blood Donor Day. This day was established in order to emphasize the importance of safe blood donation and to ensure a stable supply of blood for the healthcare industry. The day also serves as a reminder of the crucial role played by blood donors in maintaining the health and well-being of communities around the world.
