New Employment Equity Amendment Act is shaking up the SA media industry! Once passed, it will pose challenges to The MAC Charter as companies with more than 50 employees must now submit employment equity (returns) in order to obtain an Employment Equity Compliance Certificate. Without this certificate, the MAC Charter entities will not be able to tender for Government contracts. This could lead to increased scrutiny from regulators and the public. However, smaller agencies with fewer than 50 employees are exempt, potentially impacting the industry’s representation. Larger agency groups may face difficulties balancing foreign investor influence, competitiveness, and new equity targets.
