Today, we hosted our webinar in collaboration with our affiliate Dynamic Fluid Control Pty Ltd. (DFC) on Innovation in Water and Sanitation. Facilitated by our CEO Christopher Campbell, the event was a great success. Lubabalo Luyaba, Water and Sanitation Senior Manager at South African Local Government Association, presented “Context for Innovation: 2019 - 2024 Municipal Water & Sanitation.” He highlighted the challenge of understanding water costs in communities, which affects the willingness to pay for water services. He emphasised that perceptions of water quality directly impact revenue collection, especially in rural areas. Jennifer Robertson, Professional Engineer at MPAMOT AFRICA, discussed “Are Consulting Engineers in the South African Water Sector Ready to Innovate?” She outlined the urgent need for innovation in the water sector due to deteriorating infrastructure and high non-revenue water. Jennifer pointed out the gap between academic innovations and their practical application, stressing the importance of ongoing training for consulting engineers. Tumi Tsehlo, CEO of Dynamic Fluid Control Pty Ltd. (DFC), presented DFC’s Perspective on Innovation in the Water Sector. He emphasised DFC's commitment to improving water infrastructure as the largest South African-owned industrial valve manufacturer, especially in light of the challenges facing the country. Tumi also highlighted recent reports indicating a decline in drinking water quality and an increase in non-revenue water, underscoring the urgent need for infrastructure improvements. He urged stakeholders to embrace innovative technologies to ensure sustainable water management amidst the impacts of climate change and urbanisation. He also emphasised the need to prioritise maintenance over new capital investments to revive existing systems. Our final speaker, Danilo Garcia, President of RF Valves, Inc., addressed the critical need for sustainable valve solutions in water systems, particularly in managing pressure fluctuations. Danilo showcased the RGXII valve as an innovative solution to tackle chronic water supply issues. Thank you to all our speakers and attendees for making our webinar a success! Your participation and insights are greatly appreciated. Together, we’re working towards a sustainable future in the water sector! We look forward to seeing you at our future webinars!
