Last week, we started laying the foundation 😉 for effective lab design. We looked at your options for where to house your mine lab. Today, we’re discussing the pros and cons of each. Your budget, lifespan, activities, and safety requirements will determine where your lab should live. Once you determined those answers, consider these points. 🚧Converting an existing building Pros: This is typically the best bet at mine sites that are reactivating after dormancy or maintenance. Cons: It may need extensive refurbishment and renovation to upgrade and modify to meet its purpose. ⛟ Containers Pros: A great option for remote, relatively short, and tight-budgeted projects. Cons: Space, flexibility and ability to adapt to future requirements later 🏗️Prefabricated Pros: Prefabricated buildings are durable, can be modified easily, and can be installed with any equipment except fire assay furnaces. Cons: The walls can be easily damaged by heavy objects. 🏢Purpose-built permanent structures Pros: Purpose-fir and designed for longevity. Cons: It is the most expensive option.
