I recently had the privilege of attending and presenting at the FAPU Polyurethane Elastomer Conference in Linz, Austria, specifically tailored for suppliers and processors. It was a fantastic opportunity to exchange insights with key players in the industry, learn about the latest advancements in polyurethane technology, and discuss innovative solutions for production processes. During the presentation, we highlighted the some of the most common problems experienced in Cast Polyurethane Manufacture and the solutions to these problems. The conversations and collaborations that followed were very interesting, and I’m excited about what the future holds for polyurethane manufacturing in Austria, Germany and beyond. A big thank you to Birgit Harreither, the other organisers and all the participants who contributed to such a successful event. Since the 1960’s polyurethanes have been used for the internal protection of pipework in many industries including Mining, Agriculture, Food / Beverage, Chemical and Water Treatment. One such success story is that of Louis Charton , a talented young chemist from ECPM in Strasbourg, France, who recently completed a six-month internship in our Elastomer lab. Under the expert guidance of Emilie Dégoué , our Chief Chemist, Louis delved into the intricate world of polyurethane chemistry. His primary focus was on creating an Interpenetrating Polymer Network (IPN) to enhance the thermal properties of polyurethane. Throughout his internship, Louis demonstrated remarkable dedication and curiosity, qualities that Emilie nurtured and encouraged. At the conclusion of his internship, Louis presented his innovative work to all the chemists at Era Polymers, showcasing not only his findings but also his growth as a budding scientist. With his internship behind him, Louis has his sights set on pursuing a PhD back in France next year, and we have no doubt that he will continue to excel in his future endeavours.
