Earlier this month, Edu Game Namibia had the honor of participating in Fak'ugesi Festival for the third time. This impactful event, a collaboration between Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct and the Wits School of Arts’ Digital Arts Department, celebrates the remarkable expansion of African digital creativity under the theme #UntilUnlocked. This year’s Fak’ugesi marked an inspiring journey of cultural expression, professional growth, and personal empowerment in the digital arts. The event featured diverse workshops, game showcases—including Edu-Game Namibia’s contributions—and numerous learning opportunities for attendees. One standout workshop was led by Games for Change Africa which focuses on merging game design with social impact. During this workshop, participants were grouped and challenged to create a game aligned with a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Our group was tasked with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Together, we developed a game concept that emphasizes economic inclusion for young girls, which was selected as the winning concept for driving social change. It was lovely working with Danei Rall and Lisa Adams on my team. The experience was both rewarding and enriching, reaffirming the potential of gaming to foster meaningful impact in our communities.

Earlier this month, I had the thrill of participating in my first major game jam and Pitch-a-thon at Fak'ugezi 2024! Collaborating with talented friends, we created an amazing rhythm-based game inspired by classics like Guitar Hero, all within a tight deadline. Our challenge? Incorporate Mr. Selwyn's Music into a game that embodies the spirit of Hip-Hop. I'm incredibly proud of what our team achieved in such a short time. Although we didn't take home the top prize, the experience was truly priceless. Huge thanks to the Fak'ugezi team for hosting this fantastic event! Your dedication to fostering innovation and collaboration is inspiring. #Fakugezi2024 #GameJam #HipHop #GameDevelopment #Collaboration #Innovation #GamingCommunity #RhythmGame #GuitarHero #witsuniversity Zithelo Mhlanga Olwethu Shezi Puleng Manganye Lutholwethu Mapolisa Fak'ugesi Festival
