Programme Manager for South Africa at Girl Effect | African Civil Society Ecosystem Builder | Development Practitioner | Management Consultant
The first Roundtable for Women in Development took place at the end of August and history was made! It was incredible to have a room full of people of want to make a change in the world. This was a significant milestone for Athari Bantu and me as the founder. We had incredible conversations that ignited a desire to make an impact, collaborate and scale. The Roundtable was the first step in creating a more united civil society sector. Some of my key takeaways: 1. We can (and should) all contribute to our country’s developmental mandate uniquely. We all have a different position on the developmental “value chain” 2. Being a non-profit is no excuse for poor governance. (This one needs unpacking!) 3. Countries with more female representation in leadership have better developmental indicators. 4. There is a need for more engagement between corporate leadership and civil society leadership in order to get collaboration between these two sectors right. One of my highlights was having founders and entrepreneurs display their products and work at the Roundtable and in so doing, fostering a culture of empowerment. A special thank you to all of our speakers who brought such incredible insights to the table. Savannah Allessandra Cozzi , Refentse Malatji , Gcotyelwa Jimlongo , Adela Ndlovu, Noluthando Sithole and Zimi Mabunzi Thank you as well to our sponsors and community partners who were all an integral part in making this possible. Zulzi , Futurelect , Youth Capital. Cheers 🥂 to uniting the civil society sector and fostering a culture of service.
