Vegetables come with their own natural protection! They don’t need layers of unnecessary plastic suffocating the planet! Yet, supermarkets continue to wrap our food in fossil fuel-based plastics – and it's time we speak out against this insanity. Plastics are made from 99% fossil fuels, the very driver of the climate crisis. By staying silent, we’re allowing this harmful practice to continue, while our oceans, wildlife, and communities bear the brunt. About us
Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, protect and conserve the environment and promote peace. It comprises 26 independent national/regional Greenpeace organisations with a presence in over 55 countries across Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, as well as a coordinating and supporting organisation, Greenpeace International. Since the late 1990s, Greenpeace had been actively campaigning on illegal logging in the Congo Basin Forest in Central Africa. Officially, Greenpeace Africa was established with its office opening in Johannesburg in November 2008. We currently have offices in: Cameroon (Yaounde) DRC (Kinshasa) Kenya (Nairobi) Senegal (Dakar) South Africa (Johannesburg) Our vision is an Africa where people live in harmony with nature in a peaceful state of environmental and social justice. Greenpeace has always been more than an organisation. We have been, and are today, a movement. A diverse, multinational, multicultural movement of ordinary individuals determined to bring about extraordinary changes necessary to realise a greener, more peaceful future. Greenpeace is an equal opportunity employer with a longstanding commitment of providing a work environment that respects the dignity and worth of each individual. We recognise and value the benefits and strengths that diversity brings to our employees and the whole organisation and we thrive in an environment that encourages respect and trust. A MAJOR MILESTONE AT #COP29! 🌍 When you take action we’ll make sure all our voices are heard! We are thrilled to announce that our petition was wholeheartedly accepted by Ali-Mohamed, Chair of the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), at COP29! This moment is a testament to the collective power of our supporters, volunteers, and partners. 💪💚 With almost 10,000 voices strong, we demanded: ✅ Investments in renewable energy for communities ✅ An end to destructive fossil fuel projects ✅ Climate finance that truly supports those most affected ✅ Holding polluters accountable to fund climate action. This is just the beginning! Together, we’re showing that Africa’s future is renewable, not fossil-fueled. Let’s keep up the momentum and ensure these commitments turn into action. Share, amplify, and let’s keep the fight alive! ✊

BEHIND THE SCENES of Ghana’s #COP29 speech, fast fashion waste piles up and GALAMSEY SCARS OUR LAND. We deserve more than greenwashing – WE NEED REAL SOLUTIONS THAT PUT PEOPLE FIRST! And no, selling our land off so that polluters can keep polluting under the guise of being green is not that. #CarbonMarkets #FastFashionSlowPoison #Galamsey

Youth across the world are demanding action at #COP29! Their chants leave no room for confusion. 🌍 It's time for the Global North to step up: ➡️ Deliver climate finance ➡️ Make polluters pay ➡️ Support communities fighting the climate crisis Their future depends on it. Add your voice to call for action with them 👉 https://act.gp/3Z8tCjF

SHOCKING: Over 1,700 coal, oil, and gas lobbyists have access to #COP29—outnumbering the 1,033 delegates combined from the 10 most climate-vulnerable nations. COP29 is supposed to tackle climate finance, yet it feels more like a playground for Big Oil. Are we making oil deals or real climate solutions? 🤔 #MakePollutersPay

Is this the perfect response? 🤔 When asked on live TV in Kenya about the climate talks happening in Azerbaijan right now, Amos Wemanya, Responsive Lead at Greenpeace Africa, breaks down EXACTLY what needs to happen at COP29. He reminds us of the high expectations placed on recent COPs: COP27’s establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund, COP28’s operationalisation of that fund, and now COP29, where progress on carbon market regulations was made on day one. But Amos makes it clear that’s just the start. For COP29 to truly deliver, he insists we need concrete, needs-based financing that goes beyond loans with high interest rates, instead calling for debt-free, grant-based financing or concessional loans with 0% interest. His message is simple: frontline countries like Kenya, who did the least to cause the climate crisis, shouldn’t pay the highest price. #COP29
