  • How Gen Z is Reshaping Retail — And What It Means for Your Brand Gen Z is rewriting the rules of fashion retail. Rather than relying on traditional shopping channels, they’re embracing secondhand platforms like Depop, creating a thriving circular economy where garments are bought, sold, and reused. For brands, this isn’t a challenge, it’s an opportunity. Here’s why: 💎Demand for Quality: Wool garments are three times more likely to be donated or resold compared to other fibers. Why? Because natural fibers last longer and retain their value. ♻️ Circular Fashion is Here to Stay: Gen Z consumers value products that align with their sustainable ethos. By offering durable, repairable textiles, your brand can tap into this growing market while reducing its environmental footprint. 💡 Private Label Potential: With the right materials and storytelling, private label collections can appeal to eco-conscious customers who seek premium, sustainable pieces that support a longer lifecycle. This shift signals a growing demand for transparency, traceability, and high-quality fibers like wool. As a supplier, we’re here to help your brand navigate this transition and create collections that resonate with the next generation of shoppers. Let’s innovate together in 2025! #circulargashion #GenZconsumers #privatelabel #wooltextiles #sustainablefashion

The responsible mohair of the Karoo region, South Africa Carl van der Linde is a South African photographer fascinated by people and cultures — both around the world and close to home. As part of Textile Exchange’s initiative to reconnect raw material production to people, place, culture, and nature, we commissioned him to visit the Karoo region in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province to meet the local farmers raising angora goats for mohair. Van der Linde’s work showcases the story of the growers who, by adopting rotational grazing and holistic land management techniques, are working to regenerate the fragile Karoo landscape while continuing to raise animals that support their livelihoods. His photographs highlight not only the beauty of the angora goats but also the resilience of those who farm them, showing the intricate balance between land, animals, and people. • Why Wool Faux Fur is the Future of Luxe Fashion Luxury fashion brands are turning to wool faux fur as a sustainable, natural alternative to synthetic fur. What makes wool faux fur so special? ✨ Naturally warm and breathable. ✨ Free of microplastic shedding. ✨ Crafted to emulate the luxurious look and feel of traditional fur or shearling. How is it made? Wool fibres are jersey-knitted into a looped structure, then cut and brushed to create a soft, fur-like texture. This innovative process not only mimics the aesthetic of fur but does so sustainably. As innovation continues, wool faux fur textiles are advancing in weight, structure, and patterns, offering endless design possibilities for brands looking to stay eco-conscious without sacrificing style. Looking for the perfect wool fabric? The Woolmark Company has an online tool to find wool swatches tailored to your needs. Whether it’s wool faux fur or other textiles, it’s never been easier to source sustainable materials for your next collection. #sustainablefashion #woolfauxfur #naturalfibers #textileinnovation #luxurydesign

What is in and out for materials sustainability commitments in 2025? This new year, we’re excited to reconnect, refocus, and reimagine the future of raw material production together. At Textile Exchange, 2024 was a year of progress and transformation, from advancing our Materials Matter Standard to strengthening partnerships across the supply chain. Now, we’re doubling down on our commitment to driving meaningful change — helping brands and producers set and achieve bold goals for climate and nature. As we look to the year ahead, here’s our take on what’s in and out when it comes to material sustainability in 2025: In: Setting holistic impact goals that address climate and nature Out: Narrow approaches that focus on single issues without considering the bigger picture or wider landscape In: Systems thinking and collaboration that connects every stage of the value chain — from raw material growers and producers to brands and retailers Out: Isolated efforts and one-off initiatives that fail to deliver meaningful, long-term change In: Verifiable, context-specific data, transparent reporting, and increased supply chain visibility to help build trust and accountability Out: Claims without evidence or metrics to back them up, and shying away from communicating about sustainability commitments In: Supporting regenerative practices that restore soil, biodiversity, and local communities Out: Extractive systems that overlook the people, animals, and ecosystems behind materials In: Rethinking growth, prioritizing circularity, and scaling the use of recycled fibers to design out waste Out: Overreliance on virgin fossil-based synthetic materials and the increasing extraction of new virgin resources to create new products In: Collaborating with policymakers, producers, brands, and civil society to shape and navigate upcoming regulations Out: Waiting until the last minute to adapt to new compliance requirements What other commitments should the industry be making at the materials level for 2025? 📸 Kin Chan Coedel
