From different parts of South Africa, philanthropists, heads of foundations and leaders of non-profit organizations gathered at the APF Regional Convening in Cape Town themed ‘Women, Society and Wealth’ to identify areas of synergy and opportunities to advance the cause of women in the society and achieve SDGs 5.
Ms Petronella Maramba, Board Member of Delta Philanthropies who opened the event, illustrated the value that empowering women have on families and economies drawing from her lived experience.
Leila Davids, Strategic Philanthropy Advisor, Gates Foundation moderated the panel session which drew from the expertise of the panelists to provide insights on complex issues such as gender based violence, institutional barriers to women’s ability to access economic opportunities and entry points for philanthropic actors to change the narrative.
