IMPRA is saddened by the passing of Kwaito music composer Victor ‘Doc Shebeleza’ Bogopane. Shebeleza made a significant impact on the Kwaito genre, inspiring subsequent artists and later became a philanthropist. IMPRA expresses heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the music industry at large.

IMPRA mourns the passing of the legendary Winnie Khumalo, a gargantuan in the South African music. Our heartfelt condolences to the Khumalo family, her friends, and fans at large during this difficult time. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

As the festive season approaches, IMPRA would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to all Southern African Music Performers, Producers, Staff Members and all its Stakeholders for contributing to the organisation’s achievements in 2024. IMPRA is continuing to embark on a journey to infiltrate the new markets on behalf of our members, to reach out to relevant license Users, in ensuring that the music rights on behalf of its members who are performers and recording companies are administrated effectively. Operation Siyabangena will ensure that Broadcasters, Music Users like Food Retailers, Clothing Retailers, Airports, Music on hold and many other USERS , remunerate for IMPRA’s music license of sound recordings utilized by their establishments. IMPRA Update on the Copyright Amendment Bill. We’re committed to keeping you informed. In October 2024, President Cyril Ramaphosa referred the Copyright Amendment Bill to the Constitutional Court over concerns about the constitutionality of certain provisions within the bill. While the BlindSA case will proceed on 28 November 2024, the President’s referral will be heard on 19 - 20 February 2025. We will keep you posted further.
