    At M4Jam, our mission is to become the definitive source of knowledge when it comes to all things #traditionalretail. Our primary focus is on the informal sector, and in the absence of seamlessly connected digital information streams, we've mobilised a vast workforce to collect vital data for our decision-making platforms. While our core focus remains impacting the results of brands in the market though #datadriven decisions, our approach is also having a profound and far-reaching impact on the communities we engage with. To date, we have disbursed over R104 million to our #Gigworkers, affectionately referred to as "Jobbers." Many of these Jobbers were unskilled and unemployed when they joined our platform. Currently, we have 165,000 active Jobbers on our platform, and 35,000 of them have received payments in the last 12 months. This formidable field force has successfully completed 7.6 million tasks in the field, encompassing surveys (2.6 million) and training (5 million). The training they receive not only benefits our customers but also equips them with valuable skills, making them more likely to secure permanent employment. Last, but not least, the work they perform on behalf of our clients significantly enhances product and service delivery within the communities we serve.     It is time for sales & merchandising at an informal level where the customers buy! In the contemporary world of commerce, brands invest substantial sums of money to secure shelf space and maximize their market share compared to competitors. However, a harsh reality exists: these brands often find themselves competing for attention with merchandisers who operate well beyond their capacities. The primary challenge brands face is ensuring they receive commensurate value for their investments, especially within the retail sector where they ultimately serve end consumers. On the other hand, the dynamics of sales and merchandising take on a distinct form in the wholesale or independent wholesale market. Wholesalers typically engage in bulk sales and are not primarily consumer-focused. While this scenario has evolved somewhat in recent times, the age-old standard still holds true: they manage their own shelf space, for which the brand foots the bill. This sector predominantly caters to the informal retail sector, where buying decisions are often made well before retail customers enter a store. So, the question arises: who truly serves as the bridge between your brands and consumers? The answer largely lies with the informal retail sector.     In the realm of establishing success criteria to unlock the full potential of your strategies, it is absolutely essential to dedicate your time and effort to gain a profound understanding of your customers and their behaviors. This understanding proves immensely beneficial when aligning your strategy with the personas that likely exist within your customer base. After several field trips into the informal market, a few distinct personas begin to reveal themselves as definitive groups operating within the traditional liquor trade. Over time, I will continue to refine and expand upon these personas, and I look forward to sharing them with you as they evolve.
