Congratulations to NRF-iThemba LABS Postdoc Dr Nandipha Botha who was recently named one of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents in South Africa for 2024. This was in recognition of her work in “Contributing Towards SDG2 Through a Novel Generation of Green Bioengineered Nanofertilisers”. “I am deeply grateful to Fondation L'Oréal, UNESCO, and the scientific community across South Africa for recognising the importance of this research. This acknowledgement inspires me to continue contributing to both science and sustainability. I am also grateful to the NRF and The UNESCO UNISA NRF-iThemba Labs Africa Chair in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology for supporting my research”, said Dr Botha. Dr Botha joined NRF-iThemba LABS in July 2024 as a postdoctoral researcher in the Tandetron Laboratory. She manages the optical platform laboratory with a research interest and specialisation in nanomaterials for applications in agriculture and water purification. She enjoys being a part of multi-disciplinary teams that use innovation to impact communities and is excited about the prospect of material and nano-science becoming a vibrant space for self-development, innovation and impact. “The prestigious L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards celebrate outstanding contributions to science and research. Dr Botha's dedication and achievements are truly inspiring, and we are excited to share her success with the world”, said Dr Gillian Arendse, Communications Manager at NRF-iThemba LABS.
