Businesses with diverse leadership teams, particularly those with women leaders, tend to perform better. This has led to the rise of gender-lens investing—where capital is allocated to businesses that are acknowledging the role of women. This was a key highlight during the Gender Agenda discussion at our Tomorrow Investment Summit. The panel went on to highlight that, when investment teams lack diversity, biases like the bandwagon effect and optimism bias creep in. Daniel Kahneman’s studies show that diverse teams make better decisions. #TomorrowSummit2024 #Transformation #InvestmentExcellence #ResponsibleInvestment #FutureMatters Sne Dlamini Fatima Vawda Raazia Ganie, CFA Nomonde Zwane

Our keynote speaker at our 9th Tomorrow Investment Summit, Edward Chancellor, shared valuable insights. Here is a note we want to leave you with: “The ultra low interest rate environment was the most important phenomenon in the financial world of the 15 years following the financial crisis, and the shift from these ultra low rates back to normalised rates is now the most important issue for investors to consider.” #TomorrowSummit2024 #Transformation #InvestmentExcellence #ResponsibleInvestment #FutureMatters

Explore our latest Q3 Fundamentals series through an engaging article from Old Mutual African Flexible Income Fund Manager Randolph Oosthuizen, CFA Oosthuizen on what South Africa can learn from Morocco’s higher credit rating when it comes to driving economic reform. South Africa faces higher borrowing costs than Morocco, which could be reduced by addressing economic and structural issues to improve its rating. Recent improvements under the new Government of National Unity (#GNU) create an ideal opportunity in this regard, with progress set to enhance investor confidence and potentially restore South Africa’s credit rating, making it a more attractive investment destination compared to Morocco. https://lnkd.in/dwP8rs8C #EconomicReform #InvestmentInsights #AfricaEconomics

What great insights from this powerhouse panel of women who shared valuable insights in the Gender Agenda session at the 2024 Tomorrow Investment Summit today. ➡️ Where women are participating as portfolio managers, the size of the assets they manage is very, very low, and when they go on a fundraise, generally, men raise more assets than women across the board. ➡️ In South Africa’s asset management industry, 30 years post-democracy, we’ve made phenomenal progress in black representation, but women’s representation has not seen the same success. ➡️ Globally, between 10% and 12% of portfolio managers are women—a figure that has remained static for the last seven years, according to the Morningstar and Citywide Alpha reports. Be sure not to miss the Cape Town Summit. #TomorrowSummit2024 #Transformation #InvestmentExcellence #ResponsibleInvestment #FutureMatters Sne Dlamini Fatima Vawda Nomonde Zwane Jennifer Henry, CFA, FRM

Our Chief Investment Officer Siboniso Nxumalo shared his investment outlook at the 2024 Tomorrow Investment Summit today, telling the audience: “Now is a good time to thoughtfully consider diversification outside of the US. Investors need to catch the next wave, with Emerging Markets poised to outperform as the US reaches its peak.” #TomorrowSummit2024 #Transformation #InvestmentExcellence #ResponsibleInvestment #FutureMatters

The leader of our business Tebogo Naledi highlighted the ambiguous world that we’re living in at our Tomorrow Investment Summit today: “I'm reminded of what John Templeton said, that the four most dangerous words in investing are ‘this time, it's different.’ “Esteemed guests, we have to ask ourselves, are the times really that different to what history has always shown us; that humans have always thrived in ambiguous times? And here we are today, bringing you this summit in a year where uncertainty, instability and the unexpected have become part of the cause. Through all of this, as an industry, we have to remain brave, mindful, adaptable, and at the forefront of change.” #TomorrowSummit2024 #Transformation #InvestmentExcellence #ResponsibleInvestment #FutureMatters

Find out how the Government's ability to navigate internal tensions and implement reforms could potentially raise growth from its current faltering rate to 2.5% to 3% in the next few years. In his latest Fundamentals article, Portfolio Manager John Orford shares his belief that this potential progress offered by the #GNU is crucial for improving service delivery and reducing unemployment before the next key elections. https://lnkd.in/dneT9_5c #EconomicReform #GrowthOpportunity
