  • In fintech, social responsibility is at the heart of meaningful innovation. 💡 Fintech companies in developing countries provide a unique advantage: by bridging financial gaps, they change lives. 🌍 From providing access to digital savings tools to offering affordable credit in underserved areas, fintech solutions directly impact communities. Still, there are challenges when it comes to creating socially responsible products. These include: 🔹𝐔𝐩𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬: Reaching underserved consumers may mean offering cheaper products. This will affect profits in the short run, but in the long run, a company will see its customer base expand while creating better social impact. 🔹𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬: Different stakeholders often have their own priorities and prejudices, which shape their personal goals, but when everyone is truly brought in on the common mission, finding each other in decision-making is easier. 🔹𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐱-𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞: ✅ Real change happens when fintechs commit to solving real-world problems—not just optimising transactions. Companies must ensure that impact is intentional, sustainable, and embedded in every decision. In today’s fast-moving fintech landscape, leaders must ask: Are we just building products, or are we building a better financial future for all? Our Group Head of Corporate Communications, Zama Ndlovu, offers some of her insights on this in The Standard. 👇How can fintechs embed impact into their core operations? #Onafriq #FintechForGood #FinancialInclusion #Onafriq

  • For agency banking to thrive in developing countries, agents need more than just access to financial services—they need a reliable cash logistics network. When agents in remote areas have consistent cash flow and operational support, they can better serve their communities and drive deeper financial inclusion. Here’s how strengthening cash logistics makes a difference: 1️⃣ Ensures Service Continuity – Agents with sufficient liquidity prevent service disruptions, keeping financial access consistent for underserved populations. 2️⃣ Reduces Customer Barriers – Reliable cash availability means fewer transaction limits, making banking easier and more efficient for customers. 3️⃣ Builds Trust in Financial Services – When communities can rely on agents for seamless transactions, they’re more likely to adopt formal banking solutions. 4️⃣ Encourages Digital Adoption – Stronger logistics support allows agents to expand beyond cash-in, cash-out services, enabling more people to embrace digital finance. 5️⃣ Empowers Economic Growth – More accessible financial services fuel entrepreneurship, trade, and long-term financial stability. 💡 In his latest op-ed in Techeconomy, Mxolisi Msutwana, our Managing Director in Anglophone West Africa, explores how agency banking and logistics improvements are shaping the future of financial inclusion.

  • The latest State of Inclusive Instant Payment Systems in Africa report reveals the rapid evolution of Instant Payment Systems (IPS) across the continent. Here are some compelling insights: Explosive Growth: 🌍 Africa now has 31 live IPS in 26 countries, up from just 2 in 2012. In 2023, these systems processed 49 billion transactions worth over $1 trillion, a 39% annual increase since 2019. 💥 Driving Financial Inclusion: 💳 Despite this growth, 45% of adults in sub-Saharan Africa remain excluded from financial services. IPS can provide real-time, low-cost transactions to bridge this gap. 🤝 Challenges & Opportunities: 🔗 Interoperability: Ghana is the only country with domestic inter-scheme interoperability, showing a need for cross-network connectivity. 💼 Diverse Use Cases: While P2P transactions are common, only 24 systems support P2B payments, and just 6 address G2P transactions. 📱 Digital Divide: The reliance on smartphone apps for IPS stresses the importance of access for feature phone users. These insights reveal the potential and challenges of using IPS to foster inclusive digital payments ecosystems in Africa. 🌐 With smarter fintech licensing, robust eKYC frameworks, and targeted regulatory reforms, the journey toward a fully inclusive financial landscape is well within reach. At Onafriq, we continue to drive payments innovations that make borders matter less. Our global omnichannel payment network of networks integrates banks, mobile money, cards, and cash services to deliver secure, real-time transactions that empower businesses and consumers across Africa. 👉 Discover more in the State of Inclusive Instant Payment Systems in Africa 2024 report by AfricaNenda #InstantPayments #AfricaFintech #SIIPS2024
