Director at Electronic Cemetery e-Waste Management
We are back in business and are so excited to share some great news with all our valued clients. Thanks to the amazing work being done by our chosen EPR company, EWASA, we’re now in a position to waiver all standard collection fees for e-waste!
We’ve always tried to keep our collection fees as low as possible to make recycling accessible, but being able to offer collections free of charge is something we've always wanted to go back to. It means we can help even more people and businesses take part in responsible recycling, without worrying about extra costs.
There will still be minimal charges for long-distance and outlying areas or unusual collections, like where there are long flights of stairs, but for most of our clients, collections will now be completely free.
This step brings us closer to our shared goal of making e-waste recycling as easy and accessible as possible. Thank you for your continued support - it’s because of you that we can keep moving toward a greener, more sustainable future together.
If you’d like to arrange a collection or need more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s keep making a difference, one step at a time. eWASA (EPR Waste Association of South Africa)

The Evolution of Electronic Equipment: From Inception to Innovation
In the blink of an eye, the electronic equipment that powers our world today has undergone a remarkable transformation. Let's journey through the key milestones that have defined this fascinating evolution:
1. The Birth of Electronics (Late 19th - Early 20th Century):
- 1897:The invention of the cathode ray tube by Karl Ferdinand Braun laid the groundwork for early electronic displays.
- 1904: John Ambrose Fleming's creation of the vacuum tube revolutionized radio and telephone technology, marking the dawn of electronics.
2. The Rise of Consumer Electronics (1920s - 1950s):
- 1920s: Radios became a household staple, bringing news and entertainment to millions.
- 1947: The invention of the transistor by Bell Labs paved the way for smaller, more efficient electronic devices.
- 1950s: Television sets entered living rooms worldwide, transforming media consumption.
3. The Computer Age (1960s - 1980s):
- 1960s: Mainframe computers like the IBM System/360 revolutionized business operations.
- 1970s: The development of the microprocessor by Intel heralded the era of personal computing.
- 1980s: Personal computers became widespread, with iconic models like the Apple II and IBM PC leading the charge.
4. The Digital Revolution (1990s - 2000s):
- 1990s: The internet revolutionized communication and information access, while mobile phones began to shrink in size and grow in capability.
- 2000s: Smartphones integrated computing power with telecommunication, fundamentally changing how we interact with technology.
5. The Smart Era (2010s - Present):
- 2010s: The rise of IoT (Internet of Things) brought connectivity to everyday objects, from thermostats to refrigerators.
- 2020s: Advances in AI and machine learning are making electronic devices smarter and more intuitive, enhancing our daily lives in unprecedented ways.
The Path Forward:
As we stand on the cusp of further innovation, it's crucial to consider the environmental impact of our technological advancements. E-waste is a growing concern, with South Africa generating approximately 360,000 metric tons annually and only 10% being formally recycled. Globally, the figure was 53.6 million metric tons in 2019, projected to reach 74.7 million by 2030.
Join us in embracing sustainable practices and responsible recycling to ensure that our technological progress does not come at the expense of our planet. Together, we can turn e-waste into a resource, driving a circular economy for a greener future.
