Water ponding on dump floors can lead to increased dump instability, accelerated floor deterioration and increased wear on haul truck tires. The Berm Monitoring System goes beyond Berm Compliance by detecting areas prone to water ponding, triggering alarms for prompt action and rectification. This proactive approach not only maintains dump stability but also reduces safety risks by identifying low spots close to the crest and preventing water-induced subsidence and failures.   The system calculates the dump floor's inclination and highlights high-risk areas in red. Hazardous areas within the tipping area, nearest to the berm edge are emphasized. An alert is raised if the size of these high-risk tiles exceeds the threshold, ensuring immediate attention and action. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a powerful tool used to visualize subsurface features by sending high-frequency electromagnetic waves into the ground and analysing the reflected signals. However, scanning through mesh presents unique challenges due to the scattering and attenuation of waves caused by the mesh's structure. In South African mining, dynamic safety berms are vital for worker and equipment protection. Traditional measuring methods of these berms are often ineffective. The Berm Monitoring System (BMS), uses a RIEGL LiDAR system, to provide precise data of berm height measurement and identify non-compliant areas. The Berm Monitoring System (BMS) offers significant advantages over traditional berm height monitoring methods. It provides clear, quantitative measurements of berm compliance, eliminating the uncertainty of visual inspections and subjective judgments, thus ensuring accuracy and reliability.
