Another example that things often turn out the right way. I was faced with a series of decisions to be made at RTgroup and I was not sure whether to take them or not. I think my head was in a space of "not another disturbance". A friend of mine (Robert Appelbaum) asked me last week if 'somewhat is troubling me'. He made time for me and he reassured me that 'jumping into the unknown' is good. So, I did and - guess what - it turned out that RTgroup made another exciting and safe landing. This week, I met with a good friend and ex-colleague who bought a small-to-medium-sized industrial equipment manufacturer three years ago and has been running it as owner and CEO since. We have established quarterly business dinners for coaching and board-like discussions. During the transition, especially amid the Covid pandemic, he focused on observation, listening, and understanding to avoid overburdening the organization. In our latest discussion, it became clear that he was still cautiously assessing the company's strategic direction, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. While this approach was necessary initially, I challenged him to now adopt a revolutionary perspective on critical issues. Bold, decisive actions are needed to create the momentum for strategic change. At RTgroup, our core value of "revolution" means embracing transformative decisions for long-term success. Active listening, respect, and reliability build trust, but leaders must also recognize the urgency of change. Revolutionary decisions can break the status quo and drive meaningful progress. There is nothing wrong with our values but we believe in discussions and not dictation. We are summarising a lot of our ESG activities as "JUSTBE". JUSTBE starts with - first of all - be oneself and respect oneself. Only if someone is respecting theirselves, they can respect others. So if everyone embraces the concept of JUSTBE and the brand allows for a diverse workforce, the foundation for an outstanding culture is laid.
