One of our most generous donors is RFG Foods. Most recently, their donations of tins of fruit have been welcomed by our beneficiaries, especially the children. This photo speaks volumes. Thank you to this caring corporate citizen whose commitment to #SDG targets is notable. Their #ESG practices are entrenched across the business and go above and beyond mere compliance. #zerowaste #foodrescue #saharvest #UnionAgainstHunger
SA Harvest
Non-profit Organizations
Redistributing food waste to ensure food safety for the food vulnerable.
About us
We rescue surplus food that would otherwise have gone to landfills. SA Harvest collects quality surplus food in refrigerated vehicles from a variety of sources and delivers it, direct, without delay and free of charge, to a variety of organisations that feed food vulnerable people on a daily basis. Even though we work closely with any organisation that rescues food and fights to reduce waste, one of our most important points of difference is that, because our business model enables us to deliver PERISHABLE as well as NON-PERISHABLE food, our recipient organisations get a sufficient variety of food-types enabling them to make full and nourishing meals for their people. The work we do has a four-fold impact. 1. Quality food for organisations that feed the food-vulnerable – the food that we deliver is nutritionally diverse and enables our recipient organisations to provide wholesome and nutritious meals to the people they support. 2. Savings for charities – our food deliveries to charitable organisations enable them to redirect vital funding into education, rehabilitation and other programmes. Charities are also able to save money on the transport costs they would have incurred if they had to do their own pick-ups from food donors. 3. Helping the environment – When good food goes to waste it decays in landfills and creates harmful methane gases that damage our atmosphere. By ensuring that good food is eaten rather than going to landfill, SA HARVEST is helping protect our environment by preventing tons of greenhouse gas emissions from polluting the atmosphere. 4. Savings for food donors – our food donors benefit from reduced expenditure associated with the disposal of excess food, reduced food storage costs and the satisfaction of knowing they are making a valuable contribution to those in need in their local community.

Our founder's roadtrip from Durban to Lusikisiki to Port St Johns to Gqeberha took him across hundreds of kilometres of South Africa's most unspoilt countryside and up close with the poverity and malnutrition in some of the worst-affected parts of our beloved country. From awarding certificates to the young graduates in our entrepreneurial incubator with Naspers, to #BucketsofNutrition to meeting with likeminded organisations like Missionvale Care Centre and iThemba Kuluntu, to discussing future opportunities with the #Gqeberha Chamber of Commerce, Alan Browde's visit touched the hearts of many #harvestingheroes around KZN and the Eastern Cape. #saharvest #UnionAgainstHunger #endhunger #fighthunger #collaboration #teamwork

🍊 A Big Thank You to Sundays River Citrus Company (SRCC) 🍊 Huge thanks to Sundays River Citrus Company for their Vitamin C-packed donation of 35 bags of fresh citrus to our distribution hub in Gqeberha, Missionvale Care Centre. This generous contribution to our partner in the Eastern Cape came at the perfect time, bringing much-needed vitamins to the children in their care, just as the worst of the cold hit the country. Missionvale Care Centre is more than just a place to get food – it’s a vibrant community with programmes like literacy classes, ballroom dancing, and even a surfing club for the kids. But with recent challenges like flooding, high food prices, and unemployment, they often struggle to meet the growing need for food. Thanks to the citrus donation, Missionvale Care Centre could skip their usual fruit orders, saving valuable resources. Linda from Missionvale Care Centre shared, “It’s been a huge blessing to have vitamin C-rich fruit for the kids during winter. The oranges were beautifully sweet, and they enjoyed them thoroughly.” This donation not only brought smiles but also helped strengthen little immune systems during the cold season, fuelling their energy for learning and play. Sundays River Citrus Company, you’ve shown that surplus food doesn’t need to go to waste – it can nourish and support those who need it most. #saharvest #UnionAgainstHunger #foodrescue #fightfoodwaste #sustainability #SDG

This week we were part of important discussions held by The Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA) and WRAP in collaboration with BALMAR Group on #foodlossandwaste in #capetown. Topics discussed included the #SDG target of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030 and addressing key commodities as hotspots for FLR and root causes mapping. As one of the associate member signatories on the South African Food Loss and Waste Agreement, we are actively seeking opportunities to collaborate with companies across the food supply chain to reduce waste. We welcome the opportunity to discuss solutions to ensuring the nutritious food that would otherwise be wasted can instead be collected through our network of logistics partners and our own refrigerated trucks to ensure that it reaches the most food vulnerable communities across the country through our network of over 200 beneficiary organisations. Our partnerships manager, Margolite Williams is available on 079 495 4433 to discuss collaborations. #saharvest #UnionAgainstHunger #sustainability #foodrescue #foodwaste #foodloss Margolite Williams Brian Williams Ozzy Nel Alan Browde Linda Drummond Matlou B. 🎉 Big shoutout to Nature’s Garden! 🎉 A whopping 21 tons of frozen chips and veggies packed with nutrients and vitamins are filling our freezer and hungry tummies all over Joburg, thanks to a generous donation from Nature’s Garden. Frozen fruit and veggies might not go straight from the farm to your plate, but they’re still packed with just as much nutritional value as the fresh variety! Here’s why we love them: 🥦 They are just as nutritious: full of vitamins and goodness. ❄️ They stay fresh for longer: Not only does freezing keep food fresh and tasty, for our beneficiary organisations it means they can extend the shelf life and use them in weeks to come. 🌱 All-year goodness: Your favourite veggies and fruits can be enjoyed any time of the year. 🍏 They are quick & healthy: A healthy and convenient fast food, and especially convenient for our beneficiary organisations to use in soups and stews. 🌍 Frozen fruit and vegetables are accessible to everyone. Thank you to the team at Nature’s Garden for helping us fight hunger and reduce food waste! #UnionAgainstHunger #saharvest #foodwaste #endhunger #sustainability #partnerships Jessica Greyling Manoj Naran Bruce Sanday

None of the work we do in rescuing food would be possible without partners, and a great deal would not be possible without A.P. Moller - Maersk, the company that provides us with a refrigerated container in our warehouses. This priceless piece of equipment ensures that the shelf life of food can be extended. It also means that we can share these prized ingredients equitably among our beneficiary organisations. We are so grateful to Maersk, without whom the perishable food we rescue would not end up in hungry tummies. #gratitude #grateful #warehouse #storagesolutions #food #saharvest #UnionAgainstHunger #maersk
