💧 Water is life - and every drop counts! But did you know the egg industry consumes more water than we might realise? The journey from feed crops to your breakfast table uses thousands of litres of fresh water - contributing to hidden environmental costs. By transitioning to more sustainable food practices, like only buying cage-free eggs, you could help decrease the environmental footprint of the Egg Industry 🌍 Sign up to be a part of our Earthkeepers' Fast Action Network today: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d5WEnzHW #CageFreeSA #Eggsposure

Act Now Against Climate Change! Yesterday in Durban, Deputy Minister Narend Singh urged the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to take immediate action against climate change. With increasing droughts and floods disrupting agriculture and heightening food insecurity, the time to act is NOW! To combat these challenges, we must embrace sustainable agricultural practices and prioritize resilient crop varieties. “Every day we delay, the cost increases for our people and our region,” Singh emphasized, calling for a balanced approach to economic growth, environmental conservation, and social equity. Let’s unite for a sustainable, just transition that supports both our present and future generations. Do you know where your eggs come from? Choosing ethical eggs starts with knowing what’s behind the label when shopping. Most eggs in South Africa currently come from caged hens, so if it doesn't have one of these descriptions on the label then your eggs may be caged: 🥚 Barn-raised 🥚 Free-range 🥚 Pasture-raised 🥚 Organic When shopping for eggs next, checking the label is a simple but powerful step toward better lives for hens. Look out for our eggsposé coming soon 🔎 #CageFreeSA #Eggsposure

In June, we gained valuable insights into how budget flows operate within different government spheres and identified opportunities for tracking these flows, from Thokozile Madonko from the Southern Centre for Inequality Studies. As Parliament prepares for important discussions around the upcoming Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), it’s crucial to apply that foundational understanding to advocate effectively for necessary resources. The upcoming MTBPS is an opportunity for departments to adjust budgets and request additional funds, making it vital that we continue to raise our voices. Let’s leverage the knowledge from our previous session to ensure that the needs of our vulnerable communities are front and center during these discussions. Together, we can work towards a more equitable allocation of resources! Our Faith Leader Ali Hamad from Tanzania had a meaningful visit from members of the Zanzibar Youth Council and regional youth leaders. He expressed, "As a young man, I’m happy to see our peers stepping up to inspire us all. It motivates me in my farming efforts, knowing that as we learn and grow together, we’re driving change for our youth and contributing to a better future for our nation and the world." Together, we are not just cultivating crops but also nurturing a movement for environmental justice. Young people are at the forefront of sustainable farming practices, advocating for a healthier planet and empowering communities. Let’s keep pushing for change and championing a greener future! #Fleat #Sustainability #Zambia #Homegarden #Organicgardens #FaithLeader #OrganicGardening #HomeGrown #SustainableLiving #HealthyLiving #CommunityGardening

Ethical egg production is essential for creating safe, nutritious, and sustainable food for all. Let’s work together towards a cage-free future, where the wellbeing of animals goes hand in hand with a healthier, safer food system.
